1 Corinthians 9: Am I not free?
Read 1 Corinthians 9:1-27 before you meet.
In a few lines
1 Corinthians 9 asks, "Am I not free?" (9:1), and sets out a right, then says, "Nevertheless we didn’t use this right" (9:12). It uses the same word for free again: "For though I was free from all, I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more." (9:19).
The verse to carry
“Don’t you know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run like that, so that you may win.”
1 Corinthians 9:24
To talk about
1. "Nevertheless we didn’t use this right, but we bear all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the Good News of Christ." (9:12). When have you seen someone set aside something they could have had, for the sake of others? What did it show you?
2. "For though I was free from all, I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more." (9:19). What do you think it looks like to be free and still serve others?
3. "Run like that, so that you may win." (9:24). What does the picture of a race help you see about following Christ?
