1 Corinthians 5: A new lump

Read 1 Corinthians 5:1-13 before you meet.

In a few lines

1 Corinthians 5 calls Christ "our Passover" (5:7), in the same verse that says both "Purge out the old yeast" and "even as you are unleavened" (5:7). The next words are "Therefore let’s keep the feast" (5:8). In the WEB's 1 Corinthians, yeast stands only in 5:6-8.

The verse to carry

“Purge out the old yeast, that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed in our place.”

1 Corinthians 5:7

To talk about

  1. 1. "Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole lump?" (5:6). Where have you seen something small in your own life spread further than you expected?

  2. 2. "For indeed Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed in our place." (5:7). What does it mean to you that the letter calls Christ "our Passover"?

  3. 3. "with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth" (5:8). What would sincerity and truth look like in your week?
