1 Corinthians 1: Christ crucified
Read 1 Corinthians 1:1-31 before you meet.
In a few lines
1 Corinthians 1 names Christ in every one of its first ten verses but one, and then asks, "Is Christ divided?" (1:13). It goes on to "the word of the cross" (1:18) and "Christ crucified" (1:23), and ends, "He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord." (1:31).
The verse to carry
“For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are dying, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
1 Corinthians 1:18
To talk about
1. "that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you" (1:10). What helps people who follow Jesus stay together when they disagree?
2. "For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are dying, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." (1:18). When has the message of the cross seemed foolish to you, or powerful?
3. "He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord." (1:31). What would it look like this week to boast in the Lord rather than in yourself?
