1 Chronicles 29: All things come from you

Read 1 Chronicles 29:1-30 before you meet.

In a few lines

Seven of the seventeen times the Hebrew Bible uses nadav, to offer willingly, are in this one chapter. David's own gold is a segullah, the word the LORD used for Israel as "my own possession" (Exodus 19:5). And the book that opened with "Adam, Seth, Enosh" (1:1) ends with a son of David on "the throne of the LORD" (29:23).

The verse to carry

“Yours, LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty! For all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, LORD, and you are exalted as head above all.”

1 Chronicles 29:11

To talk about

  1. 1. David gave "because I have set my affection on the house of my God" (29:3). What do you give to most freely, and what does it say about where your affection is set?

  2. 2. "For all things come from you, and we have given you of your own" (29:14). If everything you have comes from God's hand, how does that change the way you give, or the way you hold what you keep?

  3. 3. "Our days on the earth are as a shadow" (29:15). David prayed this on a day of great joy (29:9). How does remembering that life is short change what you want to do with your days?
