1 Chronicles 2: David the seventh
Read 1 Chronicles 2:1-55 before you meet.
In a few lines
1 Chronicles gives Judah's family first (2:3), and the line to David keeps passing the firstborn by: Er (2:3), Hezron's firstborn Jerahmeel (2:25), Jesse's firstborn Eliab (2:13), down to "David the seventh" (2:15). Paul says Jesus "was born of the offspring of David according to the flesh" (Romans 1:3).
The verse to carry
“Ozem the sixth, and David the seventh;”
1 Chronicles 2:15
To talk about
1. Again and again the line to David passed the firstborn by (2:3, 2:13-15, 2:25). Where have you seen God work through someone others would have passed over? Has that someone ever been you?
2. Achar is remembered in one line: "the troubler of Israel" (2:7). If your life were summed up in one line, what would you want it to say, and what are you doing now that shapes it?
3. The chapter keeps names we know nothing else about, even men who "died without children" (2:30, 2:32). What does it mean to you that God's book keeps ordinary families and unfinished lines?
