1 Chronicles 15: According to the ordinance
Read 1 Chronicles 15:1-29 before you meet.
In a few lines
David's reason that only the Levites may carry the ark (15:2) uses the very Hebrew verbs of Deuteronomy 10:8, "to bear" and "to minister to him". And his "Sanctify yourselves" and the LORD who "broke out" (15:12-13) are the two verbs of the LORD's warning at Sinai (Exodus 19:22).
The verse to carry
“For because you didn’t carry it at first, the LORD our God broke out in anger against us, because we didn’t seek him according to the ordinance.”
1 Chronicles 15:13
To talk about
1. The first time, the ark went on a new cart; the second time, it went the way the Law had given (13:7, 15:13-15). When have you had to go back and do something again, God's way, after doing it your own?
2. When David named what went wrong, he said "against us" and "we didn’t seek him" (15:13). What makes it hard to say "we" about a failure, and what changes when a group does?
3. In this chapter people carry, sing, play, keep the doors, blow trumpets and teach (15:15-24). What part do you find yourself given in your group or church right now?
