1 Chronicles 14: For his people's sake
Read 1 Chronicles 14:1-17 before you meet.
In a few lines
David's kingdom was lifted high "for his people Israel’s sake" (14:2), and before each battle he asked God (14:10, 14:14) with the very verb the book used for Saul asking counsel "of one who had a familiar spirit" (10:13): the same asking, turned to God.
The verse to carry
“David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, for his kingdom was highly exalted, for his people Israel’s sake.”
1 Chronicles 14:2
To talk about
1. David saw that his kingdom was lifted high "for his people Israel’s sake" (14:2). Think of a place where God has lifted you up: a role, a skill, a home. Who might it be for?
2. Saul asked counsel of a familiar spirit (10:13); David asked God, and asked again when the situation came back (14:10, 14:14). When you face a decision, where do you actually go first for guidance?
3. The Philistines left their gods behind on the battlefield (14:12). What do people lean on that fails them when it matters most, and what might God be asking you to leave behind?
